In the presence of His Excellency Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti, Director General of the Cultural Village Foundation Katara, Katara Tech Forum held its thirteenth meeting on Tuesday in Building 15 under the title “The Future of Artificial Intelligence”, on the occasion of celebrating the seventh anniversary of its launch and within its series of monthly meetings.
This meeting, which was attended by a group of specialists and interested parties, included interventions by Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Thani, Mr. Abdulaziz Al Ishaq and Dr. Ahmed bin Mubarak Al Mohannadi from House of Wisdom and Mr. Grant Totten from Ureed, through which they touched on a number of topics, namely: confidentiality and privacy in artificial intelligence, opportunities for the use of artificial intelligence in the media, the importance of interest in developing information systems and the value of data in audience analytics.
In his speech, His Excellency Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti, Director General of the Cultural Village Foundation Katara, stressed the role of Katara Tech Forum in sending an effective movement aimed at spreading the culture of information technology in society, and supporting many qualitative and emerging projects in this field.
He pointed out that the Cultural Village Foundation Katara, through this forum, seeks to present pioneering models and address ideas and topics that would highlight the value of data and artificial intelligence and the questions and challenges that this raises.
He pointed out that the goal of the forum is to attract Qatari youth and provide them with the necessary support in a way that would contribute to the development of their skills, energies and efficiency, so that a technical force capable of contributing to sustainable development in various fields, developing the national economy and participating in the renaissance witnessed by the country in various fields is formed.
Once again, Katara’s keenness and support so that this forum opens up to various entities, companies and institutions in the country. Due to its prominent role in spreading the culture of information technology and awareness of cybersecurity.
On this occasion, the Director General of Katara honored Mr. Saeed bin Hamad bin Mubarak Al-Mohannadi, representative of the House of Wisdom, in addition to Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al-Thani, Mr. Abdulaziz Al Ishaq from the House of Wisdom, Mr. Grant Totten from Want, and both Captain Eng. Abdullah Mohammed Al-Sulaiti and Captain Eng. Mohammed Ali Al-Mulla from the Ministry of Interior.
For his part, Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Thani from the House of Wisdom touched on “confidentiality and privacy in artificial intelligence”, where he stressed that the desire to protect privacy should not make us exaggerate fears, calling for not to be swayed by the fake identity because of its impact on the emergence of the individual and his ability to influence. Everyone is concerned with determining their own information and security. He pointed out that artificial intelligence is still learning from humans and we cannot blindly trust it. He also explained that privacy varies from country to country. He pointed out the need not to exchange private and important information on artificial intelligence sites and the importance of checking the security of the various electronic devices that we deal with.
For his part, journalist Abdulaziz Al Ishaq pointed to the opportunities for the use of artificial intelligence in the media. And to the challenges faced by this sector, most notably the dissemination of fake news.
He said that artificial intelligence has become competitive with journalists in editing news, writing content and completing various reports. However, we cannot blindly trust him, explaining the danger of the media sector due to its association with influence, which must not be separated from an ethical reference that guarantees people’s right to access the right news.
In his speech, Dr. Ahmed bin Mubarak Al-Mohannadi touched on the role of the House of Wisdom as it constitutes the home of Qatari expertise. He said it is a consulting firm consisting of Qatari competencies and expertise. It aims to support the knowledge economy and provide the most appropriate solutions to the challenges facing national institutions in the public and private sectors. He stressed the importance of developing information systems and providing the necessary legal framework.
Mr. Grant Totten, from Ureed, gave a presentation entitled “Audience Analytics”, where he pointed out the importance of data-driven planning for future policies in various fields.
